Dr Mar Fan’s medico-legal experience is a testament to his commitment to the field. He has undertaken medico-legal reporting in both public and private sectors and ad hoc commissioned work for various legal firms and Avant Medical Protection. His willingness to prepare both plaintiff and defendant expert medical reports showcases his impartiality and dedication to the profession. His membership in the Medical Assessment Tribunal (General Surgery, Vascular & Urology), Office of Industrial Relations and Queensland Treasury since 2010, and his position on the Workcover Panel of Independent Medical Examiners in general surgery, further solidify his expertise. During his training, he completed a research thesis that resulted in a Master of Philosophy Degree and won the UK Intensive Care Society’s Travelling Fellowship, which allowed him to visit trauma centres in Denver, Memphis, and Seattle. Dr Lockie was awarded a Fellowship from the Irish College of Surgeons in 1985 and won the Gold Medal at the Intercollegiate Examination in General Surgery in February 2003. He was the first surgeon from Belfast to win the Gold Medal. He was also awarded a Fellowship from the Australian College of Surgeons in 2006. Dr Lockie specialises in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract. He offers a comprehensive range of weight loss procedures, all performed laparoscopically. Dr Lockie is a member of the European Hernia Society and is particularly interested in the laparoscopic repair of groin and abdominal hernias.
