With experience in both public and private sectors, he has held prestigious positions such as Director of Spinal Surgery and Head of the Orthopaedic Department at the Austin Hospital. He has also served as the former Chairman of the Victorian branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He has extensive involvement in medicolegal examinations, including impairment assessments and expert witness work, and his research has been published and presented nationally and internationally.

Although he provides general orthopaedic care, Leo is Toowoomba’s only qualified orthopaedic spine surgeon and treats conditions affecting all regions of the spine. Dr Zeller completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland, and subsequently went on to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

He has been involved in the management of a wide variety of spinal problems, but his particular expertise is in complex spinal deformity and spinal trauma. He has retired from The Royal Melbourne Hospital in July 2023, having been the Deputy Director of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for the previous 10 years. He continues to work in Private practice as a consultant, surgical assistant and giving medicolegal opinions.
