Prof Gericke is a Consultant Neurologist at Deakin Private Hospital and Canberra Hospital, Professor of Medicine at the Australian National University, and Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland. nnPreviously, he worked as an academic neurologist at Calvary Mater Newcastle, Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, Kingu2019s College Hospital London, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
After graduating from medical school in Berlin, he trained in neurology at the Charité, followed by epilepsy fellowships in Strasbourg and Geneva. He holds two research doctorates in cognitive neurology and health systems research, as well as master’s degrees from the Universities of Cambridge and London. Currently, he reads health and medical law at Melbourne Law School.
He has served as an Independent Medical Expert for the Supreme Courts in all Australian jurisdictions and the High Court (King’s Bench) in England. He has experience providing evidence in civil, criminal, and coronial court proceedings.
He chairs the Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists’ Therapeutics Committee and the American Academy of Neurology’s Neuroepidemiology Section. He also serves on the International League Against Epilepsy’s Standards and Best Practice Council.
