Dr David Shooter graduated from the University of Queensland in 1999. He has broad experience in Queensland health care, working in Townsville, Redcliffe, Brisbane and the Gold Coast before completing his specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery (2009) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Royal Children Hospitals and QEII Jubilee Hospital. This included 18 months of orthopaedic oncology rotations at the Princess Alexandra Hospital; extensive training in orthopaedic trauma (upper and lower limb) at the PAH and RBWH hospitals, both major trauma centres; and primary and revision arthroplasty training at QEII Hospital, designated an Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence for Arthroplasty by Queensland Health. After working as a staff consultant at QEII Jubilee Hospital (2010-2011), including eleven months as Director of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr Shooter then moved to the UK for twelve months to do an Orthopaedic Oncology Fellowship, working at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. He worked exclusively in the Bone Tumour and Joint Reconstruction Unit, gaining unique experience and expertise in the evaluation and surgical management of bone and soft tissue sarcomas, both adult and paediatric. This included experience with “non-invasive growing” and “joint preservation” technology for paediatric and young adult tumour reconstruction. Dr Shooter also trained extensively in revision arthroplasty cartilage transplantation and other surgical management of arthritis.
