Dr Brij Kishore
Dr Brij Kishore is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with approximately 20 years of experience in psychiatry across Australia and India, including more than 16 years working within Australian public, private and independent assessment settings. Since commencing psychiatric practice in Australia in 2010, they have developed extensive expertise in the assessment of complex psychiatric presentations across adult and older adult populations. He successfully attained Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 2014. In 2025, Dr Kishore completed the RANZCP Certificate of Advanced Training in Psychiatry of Old Age, further strengthening specialist expertise in the assessment and management of mental health conditions affecting older adults. His foundational medical training was completed in India, where he obtained MBBS degree before undertaking specialist postgraduate psychiatric training.
He has completed MD in Psychiatry (Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry) at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India, in 2009. His broad clinical background provides a strong foundation for undertaking comprehensive and independent psychiatric assessments. He has extensive experience across general adult and older adult psychiatry, including inpatient and outpatient services, community mental health, consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency and triage services, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) leadership, complex risk assessment and management, and longitudinal psychiatric care. Dr Kishore has worked across both public and private healthcare environments has provided substantial exposure to patients with varying levels of clinical complexity, functional impairment and psychosocial needs.
His areas of expertise include the assessment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, cognitive and psychiatric conditions affecting older adults, and complex presentations involving multiple clinical and psychosocial factors. His extensive treatment experience, including pharmacological management, supportive psychotherapy and other psychological interventions, provides valuable clinical perspective when considering diagnosis, prognosis, treatment history, functional impact and future management needs.
Within an independent medical assessment setting, he brings a structured, balanced and evidence-informed approach to psychiatric evaluation. The assessments are informed by detailed clinical interviews, careful consideration of relevant medical and psychiatric history, review of available documentation and an understanding of the relationship between psychiatric symptoms, treatment, functioning and recovery. He recognize the importance of maintaining professional independence, objectivity and clarity when addressing the specific questions relevant to an assessment.
He has also contributed extensively to the teaching and supervision of psychiatric registrars and medical students during my work in the public health sector. In addition, He has a longstanding interest in clinical leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, complex clinical decision-making and service quality improvement.
Dr Kishore remains actively engaged in continuing professional development to ensure my knowledge and clinical practice remain current and consistent with contemporary psychiatric standards.
