Dr Long obtained board certification as an independent medical examiner from the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners in 2001 and has been accredited as an independent medical examiner by Comcare Australia, WorkCover NSW, WorkSafe Victoria, TAC Victoria, Return to Work SA and the Motor Accident Injury Accreditation Scheme of SA. For many years he has offered his services as an active member of his state committee of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and The Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine, and previously held appointments as a specialist trainee supervisor and co-examiner for the faculty.
