Associate Professor Heather Mack

Clinical Associate Professor Heather Mack is an Australian Ophthalmologist with a strong interest in medical retinal diseases. She attended medical school at the University of Melbourne, trained in ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, completed a PhD in retinal development at the Howard Florey Institute, University of Melbourne, and completed a fellowship in retinal degenerations at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School.

A/Prof Mack is a Principal Associate at Eye Surgery Associates, a multi-disciplinary ophthalmic practice in Melbourne, where she heads the visual electrophysiology laboratory and clinical trials units. She has provided leadership in over 30 clinical trials to date. She was a board member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists 2011-2020 and was President 2018-2020.

She has been co-Facilitator/Assessor for training in AMA 4th Edition, Impairment assessment of the Visual System in Victoria (6/2021-2/2023) and NSW (2023-present). Government appointments have included consultant to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for ophthalmic practice performance assessment (2013); Member of Medical Panels Victoria 2016-present; consultant to Therapeutic Goods Administration on retinal effects of a new drug 2015; and member of the Victorian Surgical Consultative Council 2004-2011. She has conducted over 100 independent assessments for legal firms in Australia.
