After graduating from medical school in Berlin, he trained in neurology at the Charité, followed by epilepsy fellowships in Strasbourg and Geneva. He holds two research doctorates in cognitive neurology and health systems research, as well as master’s degrees from the Universities of Cambridge and London. Currently, he reads health and medical law at Melbourne Law School.
He has served as an Independent Medical Expert for the Supreme Courts in all Australian jurisdictions and the High Court (King’s Bench) in England. He has experience providing evidence in civil, criminal, and coronial court proceedings.

His specialty training in Brisbane and Melbourne, his exposure to several sports, and his differing management approaches have honed his skills and knowledge. Dr Hislop manages medical problems and injuries affecting all body parts but specialises in exertional leg pain. He has published research on Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome and is one of the few practitioners in South East Queensland who performs compartment pressure studies. He deals with diagnosis, injury management and rehabilitation, exercise-related medical issues management, sports psychology, sports nutrition and performance enhancement, and surgical advice and treatment. He is involved in research in the management of Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome. Dr Hislop has co-authored a number of chapters in the Sports Medicine equivalent of the ‘Bible’, Brukner and Kahn’s Clinical Sports Medicine. He is also intensely interested in applying carbon dioxide angiography and ultrasound to guide endovascular treatment to avoid contrast nephrotoxicity. He qualified from Flinders University in 1995. This was followed by general surgery and vascular surgery training in the United Kingdom (Yorkshire and East Anglian Deanery) and the USA (Lahey Clinic), completing my training in the UK in 2007. Subsequently, he completed two vascular surgery fellowships, a year in Perth and two years in Adelaide. Dr Wong was a consultant vascular surgeon at Flinders from 2011 to 2021.
