Ms Sarah Loughrey

Sarah Loughrey is a Credentialed Pharmacist with over 14 years of advanced clinical pharmacy experience and specialised expertise in medico-legal medication review since 2018. She provides independent, evidence-based pharmacotherapy opinions for workers compensation and Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claims, with a focus on medication safety, appropriateness, and optimisation to support recovery and functional outcomes.

She has extensive experience assessing complex medication regimens across a wide range of clinical conditions, with particular expertise in high-risk medicines such as opioids, benzodiazepines, sedatives, antidepressants, and medicinal cannabis. Her work involves detailed analysis of medication histories to evaluate clinical appropriateness, therapeutic benefit, potential harm, and the impact of pharmacotherapy on recovery, capacity, and return-to-work outcomes.

Since 2018, Sarah has prepared independent medico-legal reports for insurers and claims managers, translating complex pharmacological information into clear, structured, and practical advice. Her reports are recognised for their objectivity and clarity, supporting informed decision-making. She applies a strong understanding of medico-legal principles, including treatment reasonableness, necessity, and proportionality, aligned with current clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice.

Sarah is highly experienced in liaising with treating doctors and multidisciplinary teams, including general practitioners, specialists, and allied health professionals. She communicates in a collaborative and respectful manner, aiming to achieve consensus while maintaining independence in her opinions.

In addition to her medico-legal work, Sarah practises as a Critical Care Pharmacist in a tertiary hospital, participating in intensive care multidisciplinary rounds and managing complex pharmacotherapy in critically unwell patients. This ensures her clinical knowledge remains current and grounded in real-world practice.

She also contributes to medication safety through involvement in hospital committees, policy development, incident review, and staff education. Her experience supports a strong focus on identifying risks and reducing medication-related harm.

Since 2012, Sarah has conducted Home Medication Reviews as a Credentialed Pharmacist, working with general practitioners to optimise medication use in the community, particularly for patients with polypharmacy and chronic conditions.

In 2025, Sarah was appointed to the WorkCover Queensland Independent Allied Health Panel as a Pharmacist Reviewer, recognising her expertise in medication assessment within the workers compensation system.

She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy, and is a Credentialed Pharmacist and member of Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.

Sarah is committed to delivering high-quality, independent medico-legal opinions that prioritise clinical evidence, patient safety, and functional outcomes.
